- New BYD Fang Cheng Bao Super 9 Concept Is One Sleek EV Speedster!
BYD sub-brand FangChengBao unveiled its radical new Super 9 concept open-top speedster recently.
Besides the rather tasty Denza Z9 GT EV estate, Chinese EV-making giant BYD made headlines this week through its Fang Cheng Bao sub-brand. The latter debuted a sleek new open-top speedster during its Spring Conference dubbed as the Super 9 Concept.
Effectively, the Fang Cheng Bao Super 9 Concept is more akin to things like the Ferrari Monza SP2, Lamborghini Aventador J, McLaren Elva, and the Aston Martin DBR22 concept. The big difference this Chinese rival has over said alternatives is of course its all-electric heart underneath its pretty metal.
According to CarNewsChina, the Super 9 concept was revealed by BYD’s head of design Wolfgang Eggert – formerly from Audi and Lamborghini. This perhaps explains this concept’s similarities with the one-off Lamborghini V12 supercar mentioned earlier – especially up front and the scissor doors.
Crucially, the Super 9 concept’s revelation also marks the Fang Cheng Bao sub-brand’s readiness to create other offerings besides crossover SUVs. Presently, said sub-brand only markets one model, that being the Bao 5 (Leopard 5) 4x4 luxury super-PHEV SUV.
The model was designed by ex-Lamborghini designer Wolfgang Eggert. This perhaps explains the Aventador-like front fascia and - aptly - the scissor doors.
Set to be called the Bao 9 when it hits production, the Super 9 concept is a strict two-seater with a racy and novel open-top design sans any windscreen. Adding to its overall raciness too are the presence of ‘dual-cockpits’ with integrated carbon fibre seats and a Formula 1-style steering wheel.
Other notable design touches endowed b designer Eggert and his team include dual taillights shaped like the Fang Cheng Bao badge, bridge-like rear spoiler element, and the classic speedster silhouette this concept boasts.
Notable too were the number ‘30’ graphics present in some parts of the concept presented. This is likely to signify BYD’s upcoming 30th anniversary milestone.
The Fang Cheng Bao Super 9 Concept debut during the BYD sub-brand's recent spring conference, and is set to be shown publicly at next week's Auto China 2024 show in Beijing.
Note the windscreen-less 'dual-cockpit' cabin featuring integrated carbon fibre seats and Formula 1-style steering wheel, as well as the distinct taillights and brdige-like rear spoiler designs.
No technical details were disclosed yet, but this is expected to be revealed once the Super 9 concept debuts publicly at next week’s Auto China 2024 show in Beijing. For reference, BYD already has an all-electric supercar under its other sub-brand YangWang called the U9, and it boasts up to 1,287 HP.
It’s uncertain if this open-top speedster concept will see its road-going version adopt a similar multi-motor setup as the YangWang U9 mentioned, but we wont discount the possibility just yet.
