Proton Wins Excellence Award at ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards 2024
Proton has become the first national automaker to clinch the Excellence Award for the industry category at the ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards 2024.
Proton has broken records to become the first national automaker to get recognition at the ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards 2024. Winning the Excellence Award for the industry category, this prestigious award serves as recognition for the company’s relentless commitment to advancing vehicle safety and its efforts to improve safety features across its entire model lineup.

This award recognition comes as no surprise, as Proton’s current range of vehicles is brimming with both active and passive safety features. This includes two of its best-selling SUV models, the Proton X70 and X50, with both of them rated with a 5-star ASEAN NCAP score.
Specifically for the recently launched 2024 Proton X50 RC, this updated B-segment SUV crossover features six SRS airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), a level two Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), making it one of the safest models in the segment.
Proton Deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah
“Proton, the first Malaysian brand to achieve this honour, has a rich history of prioritising safety in all its models, as evidenced by various accolades received over the years. This year's recognition highlights our innovative safety technologies and the significant strides we have made to ensure the well-being of our customers. We extend our gratitude to ASEAN NCAP for this honour and for fostering a safer automotive environment in the region,” said Proton deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah.
“Our current range of intelligent models has a large number of passive and active safety technologies, and our newest models, the Proton S70 and Proton X90, are even equipped with features such as a Fatigue Driving Reminder System (FDRS) to reduce the risk of driver fatigue. This award reflects PROTON’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies and innovative design to enhance and improve the safety of our vehicles and ultimately helps to keep our drivers and passengers safe,” Roslan added.
Since its inception, the ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards have celebrated top achievers in vehicle safety within the ASEAN region. Held at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) in Thailand, this award ceremony also featured insightful sessions on the latest safety protocols and technologies, enabling automotive players in the region to stay at the forefront of automotive safety innovation.
For those who aren’t familiar with ASEAN NCAP, the New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries is a collaborative effort between the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Global NCAP. It aims to enhance safety standards, raise consumer awareness, and encourage a market for safer vehicles in the ASEAN community.
