- CAAM Bans Drones for National Day Celebrations, 26-31 Aug
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has issued a reminder to the public not to operate drones without proper authorisation at locations hosting Merdeka Day celebrations and parades across the country.
This reminder applies to the period from August 26 to August 31, 2024, as Malaysia prepares for and celebrates its 2024 Merdeka Day. This year's main Merdeka Day celebration themed “Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdela” will take place at Putrajaya. This is the sixth time Putrajaya has been chosen to host the celebration.
According to CAAM further, the prohibition is aimed at ensuring that preparations and celebrations can proceed safely, while also preventing any untoward incidents that could compromise public safety.
Additionally, the ban is intended to mitigate the risk of accidents involving aircraft from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and the Fire & Rescue Department of Malaysia (Bomba), which will be conducting low-altitude formation flight training and displays at various Merdeka Day event locations nationwide during the specified period.
CAAM also emphasised that any flight activities, including drone operations that pose risks or dangers to public safety or property, are subject to regulation under Section 4 of the Civil Aviation Act 1969 (Act 3); regulations 98 and 140-144 of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016; and the Civil Aviation Directives (CADs).
For further inquiries on this matter, the public can reach out to CAAM’s UAS Unit via email at [email protected] or visit their website.
