Traffic police officers are alert against mat rempit and highlight effective strategy by going undercover, according to Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.
“Part of our strategy in eradicating them is going undercover. Once we get a tip-off, our personnel will go undercover and gather intelligence. Based on the information gathered, we will then conduct operations,” he said.
Hotspots in Kuala Lumpur were identified as well as highways located in the outskirts and other states. Among locations listed were Dataran Merdeka, Jalan Raja Laut, sections of the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway, Kajang-Seremban Expressway, North-South Expressway, Guthrie Corridor Expressway, West and East Coast Expressway, and Persiaran Raja Muda Musa in Klang, Yusri added.
Yusri stated that PDRM was putting forth great effort to stop mat rempit and make sure all drivers could drive safely on the roads. In addition to going undercover and setting up roadblocks, the police are patrolling the well-traveled areas where these Mat Rempit gather.

"It is a continuous effort and we conduct Op Samseng Jalanan, Op Motosikal, and Op Didik to deter and raise awareness on how dangerous these activities can be.
"Skuad 42 is also still up and running nationwide. Each state police headquarters has its own Skuad 42 to tackle the 'Mat Rempit' problem."
Yusri further added that a total of 2,241 Mat Rempit were arrested last year and predict the number will be higher this year because up until July, there have been 1,122 Mat Rempit arrested.
