- Selangor MB Proposes Extension Of WCE To KLIA
The West Coast Expressway (WCE), which currently connects Changkat Jering in Perak and Banting in Selangor, has been proposed by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari to be extended to Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang. This is expected to benefit the entire region, including Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan, Selangor Journal has reported
“I would like to express my gratitude for the various allocations made for flood mitigation, particularly in Selangor, including the Sungai Langat, Sungai Damansara, and Sungai Klang.
“I am also pleased with the Prime Minister’s announcement regarding the extension of the West Coast Expressway from Banting to the south.
“In my opinion, it would be beneficial if this extension could reach KLIA as well. Not only would this benefit others, but it would also enhance our entire network, leading to faster transportation, economic growth, and improved development in the region, especially in the Integrated Development Region In South Selangor,” he said during his debating session in the Dewan Rakyat.
The West Coast Expressway and Federal Route 5 (FR5), which together total 275.8 km and are anticipated to be finished in 2026, were first proposed in 2014 for Budget 2015. In Perak, the opening of alignments in Bandar Bukit Raja, Hutan Melintang, Lekir, and Changkat Chermin began in May 2019 and resulted in a 60% increase in traffic flow in 2023.
