- Chery Clarifies Oct Data Error – Only 16 Omoda E5 Sold
Chery Malaysia has issued a correction to the Oct 2024 vehicle registration data recently published on the government’s open data system. The discrepancies highlighted pertain to several Chery models, as detailed below.
The breakdown of errors are:
- Tiggo 8 Pro: DATA reported as having only 16 units registered, the corrected figure is 87, reflecting significantly higher demand for this premium SUV.
- Omoda E5 (EV): DATA announced 348 units were sold, the actual total only stands at 16, which reflects the slow EV sales sustainability beyond its initial launch hype similar to all other EV offerings in the market.
- Tiggo 7 Pro: DATA reported 87 units were sold, however the correct figure is 348 reflecting the model's strong traction in the market.
Chery Malaysia emphasised the importance of accurate data reporting, as it directly impacts public perception and decision-making in the automotive market. “As we continue to establish ourselves in Malaysia, it’s critical that our performance is reflected correctly.
The corrected figures highlight a growing interest in Chery’s models, particularly the Tiggo 7 Pro, which has become a key product in the competitive mid-size SUV segment.
Additionally, Chery Malaysia will continue to expand its offerings in Malaysia which will include new energy vehicle (NEV) offerings like the OMODA E5 in a bid to support Malaysia’s transition towards sustainable mobility.
Chery will be further expanding its NEV offering in 2025 with the addition of hybrid and PHEV offerings heeding the call from Deputy MITI Minister, YB Liew Chin Tong who hope electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs) will form the backbone of the national automotive fleet.
Based on Carz.com.my findings, this is not the first time there has been an error on JPJ Data dashboard, previously the Ora Good Cat was keyed in under the Buick brand instead of GWM/Ora.
