- New Payment Options For My50 Pass Holders Next Year
My50 monthly pass users will no longer be required to use their MyKad next year, as alternative payment options will be introduced, which may include the use of the Touch 'n Go card, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
Loke added that the transition, which is expected to transform the nation's digital public transportation system, will soon enable users to access the system via a QR code on their smartphone or by using the Touch 'n Go card.
"users will be able to use the Touch 'n Go card or access via smartphone, using a QR code. These are the details we are working on. This change is being made as users feel that utilising the MyKad is inconvenient when it comes to public transport under the My50 initiative
"They don't like using their MyKad each time for scanning, fearing it might be misplaced," he said after the launch of the MyTourist Pass yesterday.
The average number of users of the My50 pass, which provides unlimited travel on rail and bus services for RM50 per month, has increased from 98,000 in 2019 to 220,000.
Under Budget 2025, RM750 million has been allocated by the Ministry of Transport for public transportation projects. Subsidies for public transportation, such as rail and air services, will account for 44%. RM22 million will go toward Tren Tidak Ekonomik (TTE) subsidies to cover the Tumpat-Kuala Lips and Gemas routes, while RM226 million will go toward My50 and Mutiara Pas subsidies.
