Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced earlier today that the government has extended its airfare subsidy for festive seasons, increasing the coverage from three days to four days starting this Christmas for travel between Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah or Sarawak.

“This extension ensures more people benefit from capped airfares, especially over long weekends,” Loke said during the launch of AirAsia’s fixed-fare initiative for Chinese New Year at AirAsia RedQ, Sepang.

The government has allocated RM48 million to the Ministry of Transport for airfare subsidies, with an additional RM20 million required for this extension. On average, the subsidy will cover RM406 per passenger seat, ensuring competitive ticket prices during peak travel periods.

During the event, AirAsia announced its Chinese New Year promo, offering 27,000 fixed-fare one-way tickets. Tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching, Bintulu, Miri, and Sibu, as well as from Johor Bahru to Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Tawau, are priced at RM328.

Meanwhile, flights to Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, and Sandakan, as well as Johor Bahru to Kota Kinabalu, are capped at RM388.

Bookings are available from December 3, 2024, to February 4, 2025, for travel between January 24 and February 4, 2025.
