Nissan’s lineup for the upcoming 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon will include an EV-converted R32 Skyline GT-R.

It is no secret that Nissan is in deep financial waters, with recent reports saying that the company won’t even last in 12 or 14 months to come. But that didn’t stop the Yokohama-based automaker from participating in the upcoming 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS 2025), as it recently announced the lineup for the show, which includes a Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R that has been transformed into an EV.

While the EV restomod was teased back in Sept 2023, work on this project had started way earlier, back in March 2023, with Nissan making public the restoration job by publishing a series of videos that showcase the step-by-step process of the whole conversion project.

The automaker hasn’t put out the detailed specifications on the R32 EV’s all-electric powertrain setup, but the videos showcased that Nissan workers have meticulously disassembled the car’s interior, as well as removed both its signature RB26 twin-turbo engine and the whole suspension system. Befitting its original status as an all-wheel drive (AWD) sportscar, Nissan has elected to give the R32 EV two electric motors, plus a battery pack to complete the EV conversion project.

Again, no details were given on either the motors or the battery, but we’d reckon the R32 EV might borrow the same dual-motor AWD powertrain setup used on the Nissan Ariya EV crossover, which comes with Nissan’s proprietary e-4ORCE AWD system. Should Nissan adopt the Ariya Nismo’s dual-motor AWDF setup for the R32 EV, we’re looking at some serious figures of up to 430 HP and 600 NM, and possibly a faster century sprint time than the SUV’s 5-second flat time.

Obviously, the R32 EV won’t be the only model displayed by Nissan at TAS 2025, as it will be joined by an array of concepts and special builds. Top on the list is the X-Trail concept duo, with the first one based on the current-gen model and the second one based on the previous-gen model. Christened as the X-Trail Unwind and X-Trail Remastered, both concepts are built for adventures in mind, featuring rugged bodykits with flared-out fenders, custom paint jobs, and many other off-road-specific upgrades.

Other models included in the lineup are both the Autech versions of the Note Aura hatchback and Serena MPV, as well as a slew of current Nismo models, ranging from the Ariya EV, Fairlady Z, and the GT-R Nismo Special Edition.
