- Total Cost Of Repairing Flood-Damaged Roads Exceeding RM300mil
The total cost of repairing flood-damaged roads exceeded RM300mil according to Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, as of December 11, the estimated cost of restoring roads damaged by flooding was RM312.1 million. According to the minister, the funds would be used to fix a number of the nation's highways that were damaged by floods during last month's northeast monsoon.
The costs of repairing Federal roads came to RM247 million, he noted, including repairing the slopes along Federal highways, which cost almost RM40.3 million, while state roads cost roughly RM24.8 million.
He noted that the predicted costs may climb as floods continue to impact several regions during the monsoon season. Speaking further about the flood situation, Alexander stated that his ministry and affiliated agencies had sent Madani Flood Relief Mission teams to flood-prone districts.
He stated that the flood relief teams were deployed during the first wave of the monsoon season and have been active since last week in preparation for the second wave. The minister also stated that the annual flood relief mission has been launched to assist victims in the most affected areas, including Terengganu and Kelantan.
