JPJ Proposes Special Task Force, Reviews EV Inspection SOPs

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is planning to establish a Special Task Force to handle critical operations, conduct intelligence gathering and assist states in resolving specific issues. JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the proposal will be submitted to the Public Service Department (JPA) this year for consideration.

This specialised team will be based at JPJ HQ and focus on tasks beyond regular enforcement. Aedy Fadly added that discussions with JPJ management will determine the required personnel before finalising the proposal.

Meanwhile, JPJ issued 22,252 notices for various offences during its Chinese New Year 2025 Special Operation, which began on January 20. 100,534 vehicles were inspected, resulting in 223 seizures with the most common offences being driving without a licence (4,313 cases).

Aedy Fadly also added that JPJ is still in the midst of reviewing its standard operating procedures (SOPs) for electric vehicles (EVs) inspection, particularly for heavy EVs. For now, the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) will continue using existing SOPs for conventional vehicles.

This EV SOP review follows Transport Minister Anthony Loke’s directive late last year to update EV-related inspection regulations to ensure they remain relevant and support sustainable growth in the sector.
