Transport Minister Anthony Loke has addressed claims that some lorry operators are spending upwards of RM100,000 monthly on "protection sticker" to avoid fines and inspections at roadblocks.

He reaffirmed the Transport Ministry’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and pledged to work closely with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to tackle the issue head-on.

The alleged scheme, which was initially reported by Utusan Malaysia, involves stickers being used as markers for Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers to let lorries pass without being checked.

Speaking after launching the TalentBridge Programme and Teater LogTech Lab at Universiti Malaya, Loke emphasised that integrity issues such as this must be dealt with firmly. One such issue is the recently uncovered corruption at Puspakom outlets which is being investigated in collaboration with the MACC.

He also revealed that JPJ has an intelligence unit actively monitoring such activities, and any evidence uncovered would be handed over to the MACC for further action. Loke however acknowledges the involvement of syndicates exploiting weaknesses in the enforcement system and stressed the importance of leveraging advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence to strengthen enforcement capabilities.

Additionally, Loke went on to touch on other challenges faced by JPJ, particularly vehicle overloading and non-compliance. To address these, he announced plans to expand the High-Speed Weigh-In-Motion system, which can monitor heavy vehicle loads without forcing them to stop at weighing stations.

Loke reassured the public of his ministry’s commitment to fighting corruption, improving enforcement, and ensuring safer roads for everyone.
