- Proton Shifted 152,352 Vehicles Throughout 2024
National carmaker Proton closed 2024 on a high note after shifting 14,601 vehicles throughout Dec 2024 - the marque's second highest monthly sales figures charted for the year.
National carmaker Proton closed 2024 on a high note after shifting 14,601 vehicles throughout Dec 2024. The feat stands as the second highest sales figure for the year charted by the automaker, as well as a 19.7% increase from its Nov 2024 sales.
Altogether, Proton has shifted a total of 152,352 units all year long, and this encompasses both domestic and export sales. The latter saw a surge to 1,131 units in Dec 2024 as well.
An area of significant growth for Proton in 2024 was overseas exports, much of which driven by its recently established CKD operation for the Saga model in Egypt.
“Proton made significant headway into our export business in 2024 despite challenges faced in some markets,” notes Deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah. The automaker’s exports grew by 31% in 2024, much of which boosted by its recently established local assembly (CKD) effort in Egypt.
Naturally, Egypt stands as a top export destination for Proton last year with 1,748 units shifted there. Neighbouring Brunei stands as Proton's second best export market with 1,200 units shifted. Altogether, Proton has exported 4,765 units overseas throughout 2024.
Speaking of the Saga model, it contributed to almost half of Proton total 2024 sales at 72,769 units.
Unsurprisingly, the Saga model stood out as the best-selling export model for Proton in 2024. Said compact sedan nameplate contributed to 61% of Proton’s total exports mentioned, which amounts to 2,906 units.
Closer to home, the Saga also continues to be Proton’s best-seller locally with 6,675 units shifted in Dec 2024 alone, whilst its 2024 total sales stood at 72,769 units – close to half of Proton’s total 2024 sales, in fact. The following chart ought to be self-explanatory:
Evidently, the figures presented also sees Proton securing an 18.7% stake of the local market share in Malaysia for 2024 where its Total Industry Volume (TIV) broke through the 800,000 units barrier for the first time. This also sees Proton continue to rank second overall here too.
“Looking ahead to 2025, we will build on the continued popularity of the Proton Saga while the impressive sales of our SUV models like the Proton X50 and Proton X70,” added Roslan, who is also CEO of Proton Edar, in a press release issued by Proton late yesterday.
