Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi recently stated that it is still too early to finalize the implementation of the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection system.

A proposal on the system’s implementation will be submitted to the Cabinet to address the expiration of previous agreements and outline the government’s future direction.

He explained that the MLFF system was approved by both the previous and current governments as it aligns with practices in developed nations and supports Malaysia’s Intelligent Transport System (ITS) framework.

However, the key issue now is determining which contractor will manage and operate the system. The initial two-year Proof of Concept (POC) agreement has ended, creating an opportunity for other parties to propose new ideas.

The government, through the Ministry of Works, aims to introduce a barrier-free toll system to streamline toll payment collection which will no longer require motorists to stop or slow down when making toll payments.

Previously, Datuk Alexander acknowledged that 13 out of 33 highway concessionaires had expressed disagreement with implementing the MLFF system.
