A petrol station in Perak was busted for allegedly underdispensing fuel by rigging the pump meter on the premises. The station was discovered committing the offence after a team from the Perak Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry checked all of the pump meters on the site.

In a Tiktok video uploaded by KPDN on its account, officers exhibit the inspection process, and it is clear from the video that the pump was tampered with a meter to dispense less fuel than what was displayed on the pump.

This trick allowed the petrol station to unlawfully profit by deceiving unsuspecting consumers.
"We have already conducted checks at the premises using a volume measuring device.

"We found that the pump was under-dispensing. The pump had been rigged," the officer said.

In the video, a KPDN officer says that all petrol stations are subjected to yearly volume verification. One of the first things the officer checks is a sticker on the petrol pump that indicates if it has been inspected on a regular basis.
A date indicating the expiration date would be written on the sticker. This is one method of verifying the accuracy of the pump's readings, the officer added.

The petrol station owner will face legal action under the Weighing and Measuring Act of 1972 for tampering with pumps, resulting in less petrol for the consumer.
