BYD and DJI, a leading drone manufacturer, have partnered to introduce a drone system mounted on the roof of BYD cars. This marks the first time automobile-mounted drones, previously only seen in concept cars, have been featured on a real car.

The Lingyuan system, recently revealed in Shenzhen,  features a drone designed for vehicles and a "smart hangar" for storage. The drone can take off and land at speeds up to 25 km/h, even when the car is moving. It has the ability to follow at up to 54 kilometers per hour. The hangar charges the drone when it’s docked, CNEV says.

Integrated into a few BYD electric vehicles (EVs), this advanced technology includes a roof-mounted docking station for easy takeoff and landing, automated flight tracking to monitor the EV's location, quick charging and storage for seamless operation, and AI-powered video editing to instantly create travel highlights.

The CEOs of both brands highlighted that the innovation lies in integrating drone and vehicle technology to achieve broader benefits, rather than simply mounting drones on cars. The system enables drones to automatically take off, land, and track vehicles while recording the journey in real-time.

BYD aims to make its cutting-edge technology, initially hinted at on the 2023 Yangwang U8 SUV and debuted on the Fang Cheng Bao brand's Bao 8 SUV, accessible to a broader consumer base. This suggests the Chinese automaker may introduce this advanced technology to other BYD brands in the future.

In mainland China, the system can currently be purchased for 16,000 Yuan ( MYR9,784.00). With a range of specifications, the BYD Bao8 SUV model with the "Lingyuan" system is priced between 395,800 Yuan (MYR242,031) and 423,800 Yuan (MYR258,664).

BYD, the world's largest EV manufacturer, is leveraging cutting-edge smart technology to stay ahead in China's fiercely competitive $1.48 trillion auto industry. Amidst an ongoing EV price war, BYD's integration of a DJI drone system aims to boost sales and offer premium features.
