The government has reportedly approved an additional 10,000 slots for the MyLesen B2 free motorcycle licence initiative.

Local daily The Star reports that the government has approved an additional 10,000 slots for the MyLesen B2 free motorcycle licence programme this year.

Like before, these will be allocated specifically for applicants who are secondary school students from poor families (B40) says Transport Minister Anthony Loke, whose ministry is charged with enacting this programme via the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

The decision to add to the initial 15,000 slots approved prior for this year came from overwhelming response, adds Loke. He also confirmed that 1,000 slots from which are reserved for Negeri Sembilan applicants where the responses are most overwhelming.

As a refresher, the MyLesen B2 programme falls under Budget 2025 and sees the government agreeing to bear the cost in providing free B2 Class motorcycle licences to applicants who are either Form Four or Form Five students from B40 families.

The cost for each applicant stands at RM350. The additional 10,000 slots approved recently is set to cost the Ministry of Transport (MOT) another RM3.5 million to enact.

“I have been told that in the first six months of this year, 14,581 students, or 97% from the quota allocated, have already participated in the programme,” continued Loke.

Separately, Loke also cautioned successful Mylesen B2 applicants on the consequences of breaking the law.

“We are giving them free licences because our intention is to help them. So, if they are involved in other undesirable activities on the road, then we will revoke the licences,” warned Loke further.
