- BYD YangWang U9 Track Edition Specs Revealed – Up to 3,019 PS!
The BYD YangWang U9 is reportedly getting a Track Edition version, featuring a quad motor with up to 3,019 PS.
Think the 1,290 hp-rated BYD YangWang U9 is not extreme enough? Turns out BYD is working on a more potent version of its flagship EV hypercar, simply known as the YangWang U9 Track Edition.
Thanks to the filings to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), we’ve finally got some details about this mysterious, track-focused EV hypercar, which reportedly sports a more potent quad-motor setup than the standard U9.
According to CarNewsChina, the U9 Track Edition will get a set of new quad motor setups, with each motor rated at 555 kW (755 PS). Combined, the whole setup is capable of delivering up to 2,220 kW (3,018 PS), potentially making it the first production EV to surpass the 3,000 PS mark.
Unfortunately, said filing report does not mention anything about the battery upgrades for the U9 Track Edition, so we can assume that it’ll get the same 80-kWh LFP battery pack as the standard model, which is good for up to 450 km of CLTC range.
Similarly, we can also expect the Track Edition to get the same BYD DiSus-X intelligent body control system as the standard model, but perhaps with a revised tuning for better performance on the track.
In terms of design, the upcoming YangWang U9 Track Edition boasts no significant changes over the standard U9, with the car in the filing report being shown sporting the gloss black styling package and dressed in a red paint job. Standard equipment for the Track Edition includes 20-inch wheels, a carbon fibre roof, a GT-style fixed carbon fibre rear wing, and a rear diffuser fitted with adjustable blades for aerodynamic optimisation.
Besides that standard equipment, the U9 Track Edition can also opt for some additional stuff, including an adjustable rear wing and a more aggressive carbon fibre front splitter, to name a few.
As of now, BYD has yet to disclose any launch or pre-sale dates for the upcoming YangWang U9 Track Edition. That said, with its mind-blowing power output, we’d reckon the U9 Track Edition will be heading to Germany to dethrone the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra as the fastest production EV to lap around the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife track.
