Delayed EKVE Phase One Finally Opened With 30-Day Toll-Free Span
Motorists can enjoy toll-free travel on the new East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) for one month, starting 6AM today until 11.59PM on Sept 29.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the waiver today while launching Phase One of the long-delayed project, which was first scheduled for completion in 2019.
The first phase covers 16.8 KM, supported by 8.4 KM of access ramps. It includes four interchanges at Sungai Long, Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Hulu Langat and Ampang together with four toll plazas and two lay-bys.
As part of the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road network, the highway is expected to ease congestion on the fringes of the Klang Valley. It links Kajang and Semenyih to Hulu Langat and Ampang, with connections to the Kajang-SILK Highway and the SUKE Expressway.
With EKVE journeys between Ampang and the Sungai Long-Kajang area could now be shortened by up to 20 minutes.
Looking ahead, Anwar warned the concessionaire that Phase Two of the EKVE will be strictly monitored to prevent further delays. “If it’s delayed, you’d better watch out,” he cautioned.
