The Road Safety Experts Association (PPKJR) is urging the government to review the Road Transport Act 1987, saying the current RM300 fine for driving without valid documents does little to deter wealthy motorists. “That amount means nothing to luxury car owners. Some would rather pay the fine than renew their road tax or insurance

"It’s a dangerous mindset that puts other road users at risk,” said Jamil Manan Supri, founder and advisor at PPKJR.

Jamil believes heavier penalties are the only way to instill real accountability among high-end car owners, especially those who treat legal requirements as optional simply because they drive infrequently.

He acknowledged that enforcement agencies are often stretched thin handling more pressing issues like commercial vehicle crashes or seatbelt violations, but insists that untaxed and uninsured luxury cars deserve attention too.

“JPJ needs to be more proactive and send a clear message as this is not a small matter,” he said, adding that just because a car is only driven on weekends doesn't mean it's exempt from the law.

In a recent case shared by senior lawyer Muhammad Hasif Hasan, a well-known product founder openly appeared in court to settle fines related to road tax and insurance violations for his luxury vehicle, highlighting how some knowingly break the law without fear of consequence.

Jamil also pointed out that this issue isn’t new, and has been quietly ignored for years. In some cases, it even involves forged number plates. 526347348_18522649693035774_4461045742214677990_n.jpg
“What happens if there's an accident? The victim won’t be able to claim insurance. And if lives are lost, the legal process becomes long, painful, and messy,” he warned.

He added that with lives on the line, ignoring the problem is no longer an option.
