Lead-trip-lori.jpg Heavy vehicles hauling construction materials, especially sand and logs, make up a large share of traffic on Kelantan’s roads, according to the state Road Transport Department (JPJ).

State JPJ director Mohd. Misuari Abdullah said the observation was made during the department’s recent Ops Khas Gempur Kenderaan Perdagangan.

“Most of the trucks we inspected were carrying rocks, sand, logs and soil. Inspections were conducted at JPJ enforcement stations in Gua Musang, Bukit Jawa in Pasir Puteh, Laloh in Kuala Krai and Bukit Bunga in Tanah Merah," he told Kosmo.

Misuari added that some trucks were also caught exceeding weight limits while transporting raw materials, iron ore and boulders.

"From January to August, 13 offences under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 were recorded involving heavy vehicle drivers, slightly lower than the 16 cases over the same period last year," he stated.

The same operation uncovered 1,080 other traffic offences under the Road Transport Act 1987, with RM126,000 in compounds collected compared to RM58,000 last year.

“There’s been a noticeable drop in overloaded vehicles thanks to our ongoing awareness campaigns and consistent enforcement efforts,” Misuari concluded.
