- Geely EX5 EV SUV Enters the UK Market – Est. From RM180K
Proton e.MAS 7’s donor model, the Geely EX5, has entered the UK market, with prices approximately starting at RM180,000.
It appears that the Proton e.MAS 7’s donor model, the Geely EX5, has expanded its venture into yet another key right-hand drive (RHD) market, as it debuts in the UK this week. Three variants of the EV SUV are offered, with prices starting from £31,990 (RM180,677) for the baseline SE, £33,990 (RM191,973) for the Pro, and £36,990 (RM208,917) for the top-spec Max.
Also known as the Geely Galaxy E5 in its native China, the UK-spec EX5 looks similar to both its Indonesian and Thai counterparts. Key highlights include sharp LED headlights with L-shaped LED DRLs on the lower front bumper, full-width LED taillights, flush door handles, and many more.
Differentiating the three variants are the wheel options, with the baseline Pro getting smaller 18-inch units, while both the Pro and Max get the same 19-inch alloy wheels with a similar design seen on our local-spec e.MAS 7.
Naturally, the top-spec EX5 Max also gets the most cabin amenities, with key highlights including a 16-speaker Flyme Sound audio system, a head-up display, multi-colour ambient lights, and a powered tailgate, to name a few.
Other standard bits primed on all specs include the large 15.4-inch central infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay (no Android Auto for now), a smaller 10.2-inch LCD instrument cluster, six speakers, a wireless charger, powered and heated front seats, faux leather upholstery, automatic A/C with dedicated rear vents, and many more.
On the powertrain front, all three variants of the UK-spec EX5 share the same powertrain setup, featuring a single, front-mounted (FWD) electric motor that delivers 215 hp (160 kW) and 320 Nm. Juice is provided by a 60.2-kWh LFP battery pack that Geely claims is good for up to 430 km of WLTP range.
Charging-wise, the UK-spec EX5 supports both 11 kW AC and 100 kW DC, with the latter allowing the LFP pack to be charged from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes. Not to forget, vehicle-to-load (V2L) is also available in this EV SUV.
With the UK now officially getting the Geely EX5, the announcement means that the Proton e.MAS 7 has ‘skipped’ yet another key RHD market, with the previous ones being Thailand, Indonesia, and even Australia too. That said, the Proton-badged twin of the EX5 did make its way to less prominent RHD markets like Singapore and Nepal, at least for now.
