The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued a firm reminder to all commercial vehicle owners and operators to use only approved reflective stickers that meet safety standards, or face action starting this Nov.

JPJ said the rule aims to improve road safety, especially for heavy vehicles that rely on reflective markings to stay visible at night or during bad weather.

These markings, according to the department,  must comply with Malaysian Standard (MS) 828 or United Nations Regulation R104, both of which have been gazetted under the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Rules 1959.

“Checks by JPJ found that many reflective products sold locally don’t meet these standards. Some even use fake “MS” and “E-Mark” labels to appear certified

“Using non-compliant reflective devices affects how well other drivers can see heavy vehicles, especially at night or in the rain. It’s a safety hazard that shouldn’t be taken lightly,” it said in its statement.

Beginning November 3, 2025, JPJ will ramp up nationwide inspections at Motor Vehicle Inspection Centres (PPKM) to ensure full compliance.

Those caught using non-standard devices can be penalised under Rules 9A and 94 of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Rules 1959.

Motorists and workshop operators can visit www.jpj.gov.my for the full list of approved products and further details on the regulation.
