caricarz-27-full_normal-full_normal-full_normal-full_normal.jpg Six consortiums are reportedly competing to roll out Malaysia’s long-awaited multi-lane free flow (MLFF) toll system, which will let vehicles pass tolls without slowing down.

TheEdge reported that bidders include JustGo Digital (backed by PLUS), Touch ’n Go supported by Prolintas, a joint venture between Konsortium Jaringan Selangor and SEP Synergy (linked to IJM and Taliworks), Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat with PayNet, Setel Ventures (Petronas), and a JV between a Malaysian royal family and a Qatari consortium using South Korean tech.

The Ministry of Works recently clarified it won’t pick the winners as the highway concessionaires will choose partners themselves, guided by ministry standards to keep MLFF systems consistent.

Implementation is also business-to-business, with no cost to taxpayers.

Highway operators have two years to finalise partners, aiming for a 2027 rollout. The system will replace booths on 33 highways nationwide, using ANPR and RFID technology to ease congestion and speed up journeys.

Once in place, MLFF promises smoother traffic, less waiting, and a modernised highway experience for millions of daily drivers.
