- Perodua: “Shariah-Compliant Use” Clause Fixed in QV-E BaaS Plan

Perodua has moved to clarify a point of contention in the Product Disclosure Sheet for the QV-E Battery Leasing Plan, following public attention on a clause that appeared to require “Shariah-compliant” use of the vehicle and its leased battery.
The clause, which appeared under the customer obligations section in an earlier version of the document, stated that lessees must ensure the vehicle and battery are used for Shariah-compliant purposes.

According to Perodua, the inclusion of this line was the result of a miscommunication rather than an attempt to police how customers use their vehicles. The company confirmed that it was never its intention to impose such restrictions, and that the clause did not reflect the actual terms or spirit of the battery-leasing arrangement.
Perodua President and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the matter has since been corrected, stressing that customer usage of the QV-E will not be governed by any religious compliance requirements.

From what we understand, the battery-leasing scheme is structured under Shariah-based financing only for internal product governance and bank-related requirements, and that this does not extend to dictating customer behaviour or how the vehicle is used.

The updated disclosure sheet aligns the document with Perodua’s original intent, where customer responsibilities focus solely on maintenance, safe operation and adherence to Perodua’s service guidelines, without any form of lifestyle or religious-based conditions.

Perodua reiterated that the battery remains its property during the lease term, and that its obligations are limited to ensuring performance, servicing and the promised state-of-health guarantee.
The clarification follows the recent launch of the national carmaker’s first full electric model, the QV-E. Priced at RM80,000 OTR without insurance, the figure excludes the cost of the EV battery which is offered under Perodua’s Battery-as-a-Service programme at RM275 a month.
