Prasarana Malaysia Berhad’s Rapid On-Demand (ROD) service has recorded steady growth, with daily ridership exceeding 19,000 passengers by the end of 2025, underscoring rising demand for flexible, demand-responsive public transport.

Designed to bridge first and last mile gaps, the service now runs 301 vans across 82 zones in the Klang Valley and Penang, serving neighbourhoods that are not easily reached by fixed bus routes.

With usage on the rise, Prasarana is moving Rapid On-Demand into a more sustainable phase. The promotional RM1 fare that has been in place since the service’s Proof of Concept launch in 2023 will end on Jan 31 2026. From Feb 1 2026, passengers will pay a flat RM2 per trip.

The fare will apply to all riders, including My50 and other Rapid pass holders. Prasarana said the move reflects the unique nature of the service, which operates on flexible zones and virtual pick-up points rather than fixed routes and schedules.

According to Chief Strategy and Planning Officer Sharul Azwa Abd Rani, the RM2 fare is necessary to keep the service running reliably while allowing continued improvements as demand grows.

Concession benefits, however, will remain unchanged. In the Klang Valley, students and senior citizens will continue to enjoy 50 per cent off, while persons with disabilities (OKU) will still travel for free. In Penang, Pas Mutiara holders will continue to enjoy free rides on Rapid Penang On-Demand.
