Traffic Diversions at 12 KL Intersections for 2026 Thaipusam

PDRM will implement staged road closures and traffic diversions at 12 key intersections around the city from 30 January to 3 February 2026 to accommodate the Thaipusam chariot procession. 

The annual event, one of the largest religious celebrations in the capital, attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees and visitors from across Malaysia and abroad.

The procession will begin at Sri Maha Mariamman Dhevasthanam Temple on Jalan Tun H.S. Lee and proceed to Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple in Batu Caves, Selangor. The outbound movement will start at 9:00 PM on Jan 30 and is expected to reach Batu Caves by 4:00 PM on Jan 31. 

The return journey will commence at 3:00 PM on Feb 2 and conclude around 4:00 AM on Feb 3.

The following 12 intersections will be temporarily closed or diverted to ensure safety and smooth traffic management:

  1. Jalan Leboh Ampang / Jalan Perak
  2. Jalan Tun Perak / Jalan Pudu
  3. Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock / Jalan Sultan
  4. Jalan Sultan / Jalan Hang Jebat
  5. Jalan Sultan / Jalan Petaling
  6. Jalan Sultan / Jalan Panggung
  7. Jalan Sultan / Jalan Tun H.S. Lee
  8. Jalan Hang Kasturi / Jalan Sultan Mohamed
  9. Jalan Munshi Abdullah / Jalan Dang Wangi
  10. Jalan Dang Wangi / Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman
  11. Jalan Raja Laut / Jalan Dang Wangi
  12. Jalan Raja Laut / Jalan Sultan Ismail

Authorities advise motorists to plan their journeys in advance, use alternative routes where possible, and follow instructions from traffic police on duty. Compliance is essential to maintain smooth traffic flow and ensure the safety of all participants and commuters during the procession.
