Honda has unveiled more specifications for its upcoming kei EV hot-hatch, the Honda Super-One, ahead of its Japanese debut.

Honda has revealed more detailed specifications regarding its upcoming all-electric kei hot-hatch, the Honda Super-One. Previewed in a prototype form at last year’s Japan Mobility Show (JMS), the Super-One is slated to make its global debut in Japan sometime later this year.

Unveiled via Honda Japan’s official website, the production-ready Super-One EV looks quite similar to its prototype twin mentioned earlier, now draped in a much flashier Boost Violet Pearl exterior colourway that further accentuates its muscular stance.

Dubbed the spiritual successor to the iconic Honda City Turbo II Bulldog from the 1980s, the Super-One EV features a reshaped front bumper with more prominent lower air ducts, muscular flared-out fenders, and a roof-mounted spoiler, while riding on 15-inch alloy wheels finished in matte Berlina Black shod in wide Yokohama tyres.

Despite its sporty looks, the Super-One EV is still a properly small kei car, spanning 3,589 mm long, 1,573 mm wide, and 1,616 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,520, thus making it on par with its vanilla counterpart, the Honda N-One e:.

Inside, the front dash layout of the new Super-One looks quite similar to the one found in the N-One e:, albeit featuring some additional features. These come in the form of the reshaped front seats with heavier bolsters, a slew of purple accents, a custom graphic for its 7-inch digital metre cluster, and a special Boost mode button finished in matching purple to the exterior.

To make the Super-One less boring to drive, Honda has added the Active Sound Control system that mimics gear shifts and engine growls through the standard eight-speaker Bose premium audio setup. Rounding off the interior amenities are the 9-inch central infotainment screen, a heated steering wheel, and the Honda Sensing full ADAS suite.

According to details published by Honda Singapore’s website, the Super-One EV is said to feature a single, front-mounted (FWD) electric motor setup that can deliver up to 94 hp (70 kW) in Boost mode. Although that might not sound like a lot for a hot-hatch’s standards, it is still more powerful than the standard N-One e:, which features a mere total system output of 63 hp (47 kW).

Should this be true, the added power could potentially mean that the Super-One will be classified as a standard passenger car rather than a kei car. That said, no battery specs were unveiled for now, although some say we should expect to see the same 29.6 kWh unit from the N-One e: being used in this electric hot-hatch.

To go with its aggressive looks, Honda has also given the Super-One EV a custom chassis setup with a lowered suspension and wider tracks for improved handling and manoeuvrability.

Full details regarding the new Super-One EV’s pricing and launch timing will follow in the coming weeks, with Honda previously hinting that this hot-hatch EV could be available across Asia and Oceania markets aside from Japan. Should this be true, then there’s a high chance that the Super-One might be one of the six new models Honda Malaysia plans to launch this year.
