GAC Emkoo

GAC Motor’s highly anticipated 2025 release, the all-new GAC Emkoo, officially launched in Malaysia.

The C-segment (mid-size SUV) runner underpins GAC’s Global Platform Modular Architecture (GPMA) with an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE: petrol) powertrain.

Locally assembled (CKD – Segambut), available via WTC Automotif (WTCA) are two variants (Premium – RM123,800, Premium Pro – RM133,800).

Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) include vehicle (five years/150,000 km) and powertrain (seven years, 180,000 km) warranties.

Exterior (single-tone) colours (Premium, Premium Pro: Star Lake Green, Frost White, Super Star Silver, Graphite Grey, Asphalt Black). Interior (single-tone) colour (Premium, Premium Pro: Black).

The all-new Emkoo has an angularly clean cut and tiered dashboard (‘Aviation Interior’), linked to a high-rising-floating centre console (armrest, storage, wireless charger, crystal gear shifter, engine Star/Stop button).

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, doors), it sees one colour scheme (single-tone: Black) with contrast stitching (Red) and trims (Silver, Gloss Black).

Equipped are the driver/central displays (floating: instrument cluster, infotainment), air-conditioning vents (rectangular: corners, cylindrical: centre), interior controls (touch sliders: volume, AC) and an ambient lighting system (Premium Pro: multi-colour).

Inclusively, the layout is ergonomic (functional) and straight-forward with accessibilities purposefully arranged (driver-centric, passenger-oriented).

Installed are 7.0-inch (Premium) and 10.25-inch (Premium Pro) HD TFT-LCD (Thin-Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) fully digital (Multi-Information Display – MID) driver displays (floating: instrument cluster) with a Head-Up Display (HUD – Premium Pro). 

Features are vehicle telematics, Bluetooth, navigation, voice assistant and customisable interface (drive mode dependent).

Comfortable, the interior sees leatherette upholstery (Premium, Premium Pro) in one colour scheme (single-tone: Black) with contrast stitching (Red).

The front gets electronic-powered (Premium: driver-passenger-multi-way-adjust, driver-ventilation – Premium Pro: driver-passenger-multi-way-adjust, driver-passenger-ventilation, driver-memory-easy-entry-exit) bolstered seats. 

The rear gets a manual-operated (backrest-two-step-recline, 60:40 split-fold) bolstered bench (three-seater).

Included are headrests (front, rear), armrests (front: centre console – rear: centre seat fold-out), a panoramic glass sunroof (electric: open/tilt/slide, sunshade) and a headliner (Black).

A five-seater (mid-size SUV), the cabin offers generous space, providing comfortable seatings with ample interior mobility for the occupants (front, rear).

Mounted is a three-spoke-flat-bottom steering wheel. Single-tone (Black) leatherette (Premium) and leather (Premium Pro) with contrast stitching (Red) and trims (Silver, Gloss Black).

Features are multi-switches (Bluetooth, media, voice assistant, vehicle telematics), and column adjustments (tilt, telescopic).

Drive is aided by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system.

Practical storage spaces. E.g., glove box (soft close), centre console compartments (armrest/partitioned/caverned/under-stowage) and pockets (seat backs, side doors).

Provided are four cup holders (two: front, rear) and four bottle holders (one: side doors).

Equipped are three USB ports (two: front, one: rear), one 12 V socket (one: front) and one wireless charger (centre console).

Accessing the boot’s electronic-powered (handsfree: kick-sensor, remote-key fob, interior/tailgate button – anti-pinch, height-adjust, electric-suction-close) tailgate, opens to 638 litres (rear seats up) and 1,586 litres (rear seats down) of load capacities.

Weighing in at 1,540 kg (Premium, Premium Pro), the all-new Emkoo stands at 4,680 mm long, 1,901 mm wide, 1,670 mm tall and with a wheelbase spanning 2,750 mm.

Sleek and sporty, it exudes a sharply tapered and sculpted exterior, emphasised by angularly chiselled and dynamic proportions.

The front-end sees a formed bonnet (raised sides), angular quarter panels (flared fenders) and an angular bumper (‘Mecha’ grille: borderless V-shaped openings – upper centre bar: GAC emblem – vented: full width lower, bumper corners).

Accentuations, body clad (Black: bumper corners, fenders, side sills – Silver: lower bumper), body trims (Black: grille inserts, upper centre bar, lower/corner vents, side mirrors, A-/B-pillars – Chrome: window surrounds, GAC emblem – Silver: roof rails) and flush door handles (body-colour).

Athletically sleek, it continues the sharply tapered and sculpted profile, emphasised by angularly horizontal and symmetrically lined creases.

The rear-end sees a straight cut roofline (‘Mecha’ spoiler: roof-edge spoiler), angular quarter panels (flared fenders), an angular tailgate (GAC emblem, Emkoo script) and a sculpted bumper (diffuser: double slats – ‘Turbo Jet’ exhausts: hexagonal corners).

Accentuations, body clad (Black: bumper, fenders, side sills – Silver: diffuser), body trims (Black: exhaust surrounds, B-pillars – Chrome: exhaust tips, window surrounds, GAC emblem, Emkoo script – body-colour: D-pillars – Silver: roof-edge spoiler, roof rails) and flush door handles (body-colour).

Angular, the ‘Eyes of Revelation’ headlamps are framed slit-like slim and inverted L-shaped. Installed are full LED (Matrix Lighting) units.

Features are automatic On/Off/cornering/levelling, Daytime Running Lights (DRL – LED), Intelligent High-Beam Control System (IHBC), welcome/leaving lights, Dynamic Light Sequence (Premium Pro) and sequential turn signals (LED).

Angular, the ‘Quantum Lightsabers’ tail lamps are framed slit-like slim and vertical with ‘Starlight Red Crystal’ texture. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off, welcome/leaving lights, Dynamic Light Sequence (Premium Pro) and sequential turn signals (LED). Included is a high-mounted stop light (roof-edge spoiler integrated).

The side mirrors (single-tone: Black) are electronic-powered (auto-fold, adjust), with turn signals (LED), blind-spot indicators (Blind Spot Detection – BSD), kerb view (Premium Pro: automatic-tilt), heating (Premium Pro) and memory (Premium Pro).

Fitted are ventilated (front) and solid (rear) disc brakes. Drive is aided by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system.

Sportily designed, mounted (Premium, Premium Pro) is a set of 19-inch ten-spoke (dual-tone: Black-Chrome) alloy rims, wrapped in 235/55 R19 Continental EcoContact 6 (front, rear) tyres.

The all-new Emkoo is installed with the following suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The all-new Emkoo (Premium, Premium Pro) comes with an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE: petrol) powertrain.

Nestled is a 1.5-litre inline four-cylinder 16-valve turbocharged direct-injection (T-GDi) DOHC petrol engine (177 PS/130 kW, 270 Nm).

Mated to the setup is a seven-speed automatic DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission).

Power is transmitted to the front wheels, via a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) system.

0 to 100 KM/H is done in 8.8 secs. Top speed is 190 km/h.

Fuel tank capacity is at 55 litres. Fuel consumption is 6.6 l/100 km (NEDC).

A suitable daily driver, the ride comfortability feels flexible and firm at the same time, providing great power with agile handling.

Suspension fitted is a setup of MacPherson strut (front) and multi-link (rear). Inside and out, performance- and comfort-wise, the ride quality is satisfactory.

Good sound insulation with the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects accounted for. The cabin is well-designed, enhancing the in-car ambience.

Overall, the cabin can suppress unwanted noises well and make them barely noticeable, even when cruising through bumpy terrains or at high speeds.
