Honda Odyssey

Honda Malaysia has officially launched the facelifted Odyssey. The seven-seat MPV arrives fully imported (CBU) from Japan and will cost you RM275,311 on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of the ongoing sales tax exemption that ends on June 30 this year.

Inside, the car gets a new dashboard design with an eight-inch touchscreen taking centre stage. As a result, the centre and passenger air vents are now slimmer and sit on a single plane to create divider between the touchscreen and centre stack

It has a seven-inch multi-info instrument cluster display, an Advanced Display Audio infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support

The seven seats are laid out in a 2-2-3 configuration, with the second row housing captain chairs with an ottoman mechanism. As before, the second-row seats can be slid and tilted, while the third row can be folded away completely if you need more cargo space. For comfort, there’s dual-zone climate control at the front, while the rear gets a single zone and ceiling air vents.

The 2022 Honda Odyssey has a well-built cabin with good fit and finish and plenty of small storage areas and cup holders. 

The steering wheel features a variety of intuitive controls. Select and control your music,take phone calls, change information displays and adjust the cruise control, all while keeping your hands on the steering wheel. 

With fifteen cup holders, the Odyssey seats seven people, whereas all the other models seat eight people in spacious comfort. That means there are two cup holders per person inside the minivan

The Odyssey boasts tons of interior space. Spaciousness and clever interior packaging are some of the reasons it continues to be one of the top choices in Malaysia. It's a strong performer, too. Ride quality is stable and allows for surprisingly nimble handling.

Interior material quality is above average with the extensive use of soft touch material and premium quality leather upholstery. The panels are well put together and the fit and finish is on par with some of the more expensive cars. 

With all seats upright, the 2022 Honda Odyssey can fit up to 38.6* cubic feet of cargo in the back. Behind the second row of seats, the 2022 Odyssey can fit as much as 92* cubic feet of your items. Finally, behind the first row of seats, the 2022 Honda Odyssey can fit up to 158* cubic feet of cargo behind it.

The Odyssey looks a lot more imposing thanks to a new front grille that is more upright and accompanied by four horizontal slats.

More LEDs can be seen in the lower apron as strips, which are integrated into wide-width lower intake portion of the bumper that has been redone for a wider and sharper stance.

Along the sides, the Odyssey retains its familiar profile as before, but the rear sports revised taillights (with new graphics) and a chrome strip spanning the width of the tailgate. The chrome trim at the base of the rear bumper near the reflectors have also been inverted and made to look less subtle.

The Odyssey 2022 comes equipped with the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) on top of ABS, EBD and brake assist.

Honda Sensing, making the Honda Odyssey the third vehicle in Honda’s line up to be fitted with Honda’s Advance Driver Assistance System (ADAS) after the Honda Accord and the Honda CR-V.  Using a series of radars and camera onboard, the system offers safety features like Front Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

6 airbags, Multi-view Camera System, Smart Parking Assist System, Blind Spot Information with Cross Traffic Monitor, Hill Start Assist, LED Active Cornering Lights (ACL), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), ABS with EBD, Brake Assist (BA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) and Security alarm with immobiliser.

Smart Entry and Push Start Button, ECON button, cruise control and Auto Dim Rear View Mirror also come as standard.

The 2022 Honda Odyssey has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Hands-Free Telephone function, HDMI ports, USB ports and connected to a 6-speaker audio system. A dual-zone automatic climate control is available up front and a single zone control at the rear.

The Honda Odyssey is powered by Honda’s familiar Earth Dream Technology 2.4 litre 4-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine, the same power unit from the ninth generation Honda Accord. It produces 175 PS at 6200 RPM and 225 NM of torque from 4000 RPM. The proven Honda’s 2.4 L engine is refined, reliable and offers smooth and linear power delivery.

The Picanto is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Drive is sent towards the front wheels via a CVT automatic.

The Honda Odyssey rides on a MacPherson Strut up front and a torsion beam system at the rear. Compared to other MPVs on the market, the Honda Odyssey rides lower and has a much lower centre of gravity. That translate to a greater high speed and cornering stability.

The ride is supple when dealing with bump and road imperfection. NVH level is much improved compared to the model it replaces.   

The Picanto soundproofing system allows for a cabin that is more pleasant to be in.

Honda Odyssey is proven to be a more sensible and cheaper alternative to the more expensive Japanese counterparts. It certainly drives better than most MPVs and offers a practical alternative to the luxury premium MPV. Though lacking in features and space, it more than makes up for it with an advanced safety feature and a luxurious interior
