Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance

The first hybrid-AMG and the most powerful production-AMG from the Three-Pointed Star, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance.

Officially launched in Malaysia, Mercedes-AMG’s new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) initiates the first roll-out under its new E Performance hybrid strategy.

Priced from MYR 2,088,888 (OTR, w/o insurance), it is the flagship variant of the GT 4-Door Coupe (Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4Matic+) that launched locally in 2019.

Five MANUFAKTUR label exterior hues. Kalahari Gold, AMG Green Hell Magno, Classic Grey Uni, Olive Metallic, Copper Orange Magno.

Standard exterior treatment all around are the AMG Aerodynamics Package, AMG Carbon-Fibre Package II, AMG Night Package and AMG Night Package II.

Refined, clean and highly premium, the new AMG GT 63 S E Performance has a driver centric and borderline performance-oriented cockpit, blessed with the AMG treatment.

Upholstery comes in Nappa leather with multiple colour choices (interior scheme dependent), and the dash is accentuated by AMG trimmings in carbon fibre.

The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system commands the airy layout, which also features protruding, turbine-designed air-conditioning nozzles.

Accompanied by a matching MANUFAKTUR microcut-microfibre black headliner, the interior upholstered in Nappa leather comes with a selection of colours.

E.g., Titanium Grey Pearl/Black with Yellow topstitching, Truffle Brown/Black with Diamond stitching, Sienna Brown, Classic Red, Yacht Blue, Deep White and Neva Grey. (Standard upholstery - Black Nappa leather).

Fitted up front are AMG Performance seats, featuring a Multicontour Seat Package, Memory Package, Energising Package, and a climate function.

Courtesy of its borderline long and wide build, front and rear occupants have ample space. Adequately comfortable with generous head, leg and shoulder rooms.

Standard fitment is the AMG Performance steering wheel, in a three-rounded twin-spoke with a flat-bottom design, wrapped in Nappa leather/microcut-microfibre.

It features rounded AMG controls (multi-function buttons), paddle shifters, column adjustments (tilt, telescopic), and an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system.

Weighing in at 2,380 KG, the new AMG GT 63 S E Performance stands at 5,054 MM long, 1,953 MM wide, 1,447 MM tall, and with a wheelbase spanning 2,951 MM.

Sportily elegant, its muscularly-squatted silhouette gets a strikingly characteristic front-end, which is based on the design of the two-door AMG GT.

Commanding the layout, featured is the familiar Mercedes grille that has been paired to a three-part lower air-intake fitment (wide outer- and stretched middle-intake).

Heightening its outlook is the AMG Night Package and the AMG Night Package II, which sees details and trimmings in high-gloss black and dark chrome.

Complementing the front, its coupe-esque rear-end further exudes a sophisticated and athletic appeal with sharp, minimalistic and seamless contours. 

Exuding a jointless design, the bumper with a slit-like air-intake, extends to the sides giving the body its muscular shoulder section, as well as its planted demeanour. 

Perfecting its shape is a bumper-integrated black diffuser with fluted trapezoidal quad exhausts, integrated plug-in charging flap, and a retractable spoiler.

Angular-framed with a determined outlook, installed are multibeam LED auto-headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and Adaptive High Beam Assist Plus.

Befitting of the rear layout, the wraparound tail lamps are very refined and thinly-housed. They are full LED units with dynamic turn indicators.

It rides on a set of 21-Inch five-twin-spoke, black with a high-sheen finish rim flange AMG forged wheels, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.

The modes can be selected using the rocker switch located at the centre console, or via the AMG steering wheel buttons.

Another half of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system, installed is a 12.3-Inch touchscreen display with an optional rear setup (dedicated controls).

Hybridised, the new AMG GT 63 S E Performance harbours an AMG 4.0-Litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, paired to a rear-mounted permanently excited synchronous electric motor. Total system output is 843 HP/620-KW and 1,470 NM of torque.

It accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in 2.9 seconds, and has a 316 KM/H top speed.

AMG-developed and Formula 1-derived, the 6.1-KWH battery provides 12 KM (WLTP) of electric-only range and up to 130 KM/H of driving speed. Charging is via the 3.7-KW onboard AC charger, at a charging station, a wallbox or household sockets.

For the petrol side, it sports a 65-Litre fuel tank capacity, and has a consumption of 8.6-L/100 KM.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance exudes an elegantly sporty and energy filled build, a perfect embodiment of Merc’s mastery in design and engineering.

Overall, inside and out the build quality is excellent, and with its distinctive outlook and energising powertrain, the new AMG GT 63 S E Performance is definitely a Merc to have.
