MG S5 EV

First previewed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 (MAS ‘25), MG’s latest offering, the all-new MGS5 EV, officially launched in Malaysia.

A Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the B-segment SUV (subcompact/crossover) underpins MG’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) architecture.

Fully imported (CBU – China), available via MG Motor Malaysia are three variants (Com – MYR 116,548, Com Long Range – MYR 126,548, Lux Long Range – MYR 136,548).

Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) cover vehicle (seven years/150,000 KM), EV battery (eight years/180,000 KM) and drive motor-motor control unit (eight years/160,000 KM) warranties.

Early bird package (first 500 units – rebate: MYR 6,000, complimentary: 7 KW home wall box charger).

Five exterior colours (single-tone – Camden Grey, Arctic White, Monument Silver, Dynamic Red, Elegant Latte – Lux Long Range). Two interior colours (single-tone: Black).

The all-new MGS5 EV has a symmetrically tiered dashboard, linked to a high-rising-bride-style centre console (rotary gear shifter, wireless charger).

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, doors), it sees one colour scheme (dual-tone – Black-Grey) with contrast trims (Silver).

Filling the spaces are a dash-integrated driver display (instrument cluster), a floating central display (infotainment) and air-conditioning vents (hidden).

Inclusively, the layout is ergonomic and non-cluttered, with accessibilities purposefully arranged (driver-centric, passenger-oriented).

Equipped is a 10.25-Inch dash-integrated digital driver display (instrument cluster).

Comfortably plush, the interior sees fabric (Com) and fabric-leather (Com Long Range, Lux Long Range) upholsteries in one colour scheme (dual-tone – Black-Grey).

The front gets electric-powered (Com Long Range, Lux Long Range: driver-six-way-adjust, driver-lumbar) and manual-operated (Com: driver-six-way-adjust/Com, Com Long Range, Lux Long Range: passenger-four-way-adjust) bolstered seats. The rear gets a manual-operated (60:40 split-fold) bolstered bench.

Included are armrests (front – centre console, rear – centre seat fold-out), headrests (front, rear) and a panoramic glass sunroof (electric: tilt/slide – Lux Long Range).

The five-seater e-crossover offers generous cabin space, providing comfortable seatings with ample interior mobility for the occupants (front, rear).

Practical spaces available. E.g., centre console caverned/partitioned spaces, glove box and seat back/side door pockets.

Mounted is a three-spoke-flat-bottom steering wheel, wrapped in polyurethane (Com, Com Long Range – Black) and leather (Lux Long Range – Black) with contrast trims (Silver).

Features are multi-function buttons (media, Bluetooth, voice recognition, ACC – Adaptive Cruise Control, vehicle telematics) and column adjustments (tilt, telescopic).

Aiding the drive is an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system.

Provided are four cup holders (two – front, rear) and four bottle holders (one – side doors).

Installed are one 12 V power socket (front), three USB ports (two – front, one – rear) and one wireless charger (front – centre console – Lux Long Range).

Included is a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L – 3.3 KW) function for powering of external devices.

Accessing (Lux Long Range) its electric-powered (handsfree: kick-sensor, remote/key fob, tailgate button) tailgate, opens to 453-Litres (rear seats up) and 1,441-Litres (rear seats down) of load capacities.

The all-new MGS5 EV stands at 4,476 MM in length, 1,849 MM in width, 1,621 MM in height and with a wheelbase spanning 2,730 MM.

Parading a seamlessly sleek and aerodynamically sporty exterior, it boasts angularly refined elements and contours.

The front-end sees mildly formed bonnet/quarter panels and a sculpted bumper (‘Wind Hunter’ active intake grille: Active Grille System – AGS, side cutouts, ‘MG’ emblem).

Accentuations, body cladding (Black: bumper, fenders, side sills), body trims (Black: vent inserts, side mirrors – Chrome: window surrounds, ‘MG’ emblem) and roof rails (Silver).

Middle pointed (beltline flowing), it continues the seamlessly sporty profile, emphasised by angularly smooth and horizontally aligned curves.

The rear-end sees a straight cut roofline (roof-edge spoiler), a formed tailgate (ducktail sculpted, ‘MG’ emblem, lightbar), flared quarter panels and a covered bumper (diffuser).

Accentuations, body cladding (Black: bumper, fenders, side sills), body trims (Black: diffuser – Chrome: window surrounds, ‘MG emblem) and roof rails (Silver).

Fiercely angular, the dual-tier (upper: DRL – lower: main) headlamps are framed sharply pointed and inward-tilted. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off/low-high-beam, Intelligent Headlamp Control (IHC), sequential turn signals (LED), ‘Racing Flag’ Daytime Running Lights (DRL – LED) and follow-me-home lights.

Sleek and elongated, the ‘Family Arch’ tail lamps are framed full width (lightbar) with angularly sharp wraparound edges. Installed are LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off, sequential turn signals (LED) and follow-me-home lights. Included is a high-mounted brake light (spoiler integrated – LED).

The side mirrors (single-tone – Black) are electric-powered (auto-fold – Lux Long Range, adjust), with sequential turn-signals (LED) and blind spot-indicators (Blind Spot Detection – BSD).

Mounted is a set of ventilated (front) and solid (rear) disc brakes, incorporating an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system.

Aiding the drive are three Regenerative Braking Modes (KERS – Kinetic Energy Recovery System – 1, 2, 3) and One-Pedal-Drive (regenerative braking).

Fitted are sets of 17-Inch (single-tone – Com, Com Long Range) and 18-Inch (dual-tone – Lux Long Range) alloy rims, wrapped in 215/60 R17 Kumho Solus HS63 (Com, Com Long Range) and 225/55 R18 Bridgestone Turanza T005 (Lux Long Range) tyres.

The all-new MGS5 EV features the ‘MG Pilot’ suit of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Grouped are Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear-Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Door Opening Warning (DOW), Drowsiness Monitor System (DMS), Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Intelligent Headlamp Control (IHC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Others include Surround View Camera (SVC: 360-degree – Lux Long Range), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Hill-Start Assist (HSA).

Passive safety consists of seven airbags (driver-passenger, driver-knee, front-sides, front-rear curtains), seat belts (pretensioners, anchors, reminders), ISOFIX (two – outer rear seats), automatic door locks (electronic child lock, central locking, speed-sensing, walk-away-auto-lock), automatic wipers (front: rain-sensing, intermittent – Lux Long Range), automatic headlamps (On/Off/low-/high-beam), parking cameras (reverse, 360-degree), parking sensors (four – rear), rear view mirrors (exterior: BSD), Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system and anti-theft (security alarm, immobiliser).

Selectable are three drive modes (ECO, NORMAL, SPORT) and three Regenerative Braking Modes (KERS – Kinetic Energy Recovery System – 1, 2, 3).

Equipped is a floating 12.8-Inch touchscreen centre display (infotainment).

Features are Bluetooth, media, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (wireless), navigation and MG iSmart (‘Hello MG’ voice command, MG mobile app).

Variant-specific, entertainment is channelled via a standard setup (four speakers: Com, Com Long Range – six speakers: Lux Long Range).

The all-new MGS5 EV features an e-powertrain setup (BEV).

Nestled is a single electric motor setup (rear-mounted), generating 125 KW (168 HP) and 250 NM.

Churning the setup is a single-speed automatic transmission.

Power is rooted to the rear wheels, via a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) system.

Powering the e-motor is a Lithium-Ion (Lithium Iron Phosphate – LFP) battery (49 KWH – Com, 62 KWH – Com Long Range, Lux Long Range), enabling a total driving range (WLTP) of 340 KM (Com) and 430 KM (Com Long Range, Lux Long Range).

DC charging (CCS2: 120 KW – Com, 150 KW – Com Long Range, Lux Long Range), takes 24 minutes (Com) and 26 minutes (Com Long Range, Lux Long Range) for a 10% to 80% State of Charge (SoC). AC charging (Type 2: 7.0 KW – Com, Com Long Range, Lux Long Range).

Included is a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L – 3.3 KW) function for powering of external devices.

Underpinned is MG’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) architecture. Propping-up the chassis is a suspension setup of MacPherson strut (front) and multi-link (rear).

Ride comfortability feels flexible and firm at the same time. The e-subcompact SUV delivers a comfortable and light steering feel with smooth overall electric performance.

Good sound insulation with most of the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects accounted for. The ride is quiet, refined and the road noise is mostly muted.
