Perodua Sold Over 25,000 Units in September, Highest-Ever Monthly Sales!
It would appear as though the government’s post-COVID-19 economic recovery plan has certainly worked its magic – particularly in the automotive sector. National carmaker Perodua has quite recently posted its monthly sales figure for September, revealing a total of 25,035 vehicles sold – which is the highest-ever figure in the entirety of its 26-year history.
The September figure saw a 10.8% increase from August, where Perodua sold 22,604 units. Adding that with figure from July of 23,203 units sold, Perodua has achieved a sales figure of 70,842 units in the third quarter of 2020 – an increase of 13,870 units or 24.3% over the 56,972 units from a similar period a year ago.

In the initial nine months, Perodua managed to move a total of 145,012 units, which is 69.1% of its sales target to sell 210,000 vehicles in 2020. Perodua at first set a sales target of 240,000 units for the year, however it has since been revised because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which is at present seeing another spike in cases in the country.
To fulfil the high demand, Perodua says that it is increasing their production at both its assembly plants in Sungai Choh, Rawang. Be that as it may, the figure is probably not going to rise any further than the current numbers, as the current production rate of around 25,000 units per month is as of now approaching 99% of its overall production capacity, according to CEO Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
The sales performance figures were published by UMW Holdings, which holds a 38% stake in Perodua. Acting President and Group CEO, Azmin Che Yusoff referred to the sales tax exemptions as one of the main reasons for the encouraging results: “We are thankful to the government for introducing economic stimulus packages and for implementing the sales tax exemption to boost the automotive industry in Malaysia. We are confident that the strong sales momentum will continue into the final quarter of the year.”
