80% of Cars Sold in the World Are White, Black, Grey and Silver
How do you decide the colour of your car, is it preference, ease of maintenance, or resale value? Regardless of which is the deciding factor, white seems to tick most of the boxes. According to Axalta, white makes up 38% of all cars sold globally in 2020.
According to the study which covers car-producing countries with detailed data, white is most popular. The second place is black, which is only half of white at 19%. Third and fourth place are occupied by grey and silver respectively.
Essentially 81% of the cars sold worldwide are monochrome colours. One would need to go until number 5 to see some colours, which is blue at a measly 7%, and red at a rather minuscule 5%. The remaining colours are brown, yellow, green and others.
Axalta mentions that green-based hues are on the rise, in sync with the latest home, fashion and products trends, but it’s still undeniable that this soothing colour stands at a puny 1%. Compared to the data collected last year, grey is the biggest gainer, improving 2% from 13%. Wonder how many shades of grey are available? Meanwhile, black is still the most popular choice for luxury makes, despite Rolls-Royce offering 44,000 colours for their well-heeled customers.
We still can’t wrap our heads around the popularity of white cars. Does colour affect your choice when you are selecting your next car? Let us know.
