Subaru Levorg Wins the Coveted Car of the Year Japan 2020/21 Award
After hogging headlines with the successor of the well-received Subaru BR-Z, Subaru Corporation is once again in the news. This time, the all-new Subaru Levorg has been named Car of the Year Japan 2020/21. The previous Subaru Levorg sold in very limited numbers in Malaysia due to its CBU status.

It’s actually the third time Subaru bagged this coveted title. The Impreza Sport/G4 and Legacy won the same award in 2016 and 2004 respectively. Other categories in the awards include Import Car of the Year, Design Car of the Year, Technology Car of the Year, K Car of the Year, and Performance Car of the Year.
The all-new Levorg is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged boxer engine with 177hp and 300Nm, drive is sent to all wheels via a CVT transmission. Until this month, Subaru has collected 12,594 orders for the Levorg in Japan. 94% of customers have opted for variants with the EyeSight X suite of safety systems.
EyeSight X comes with a new pedestrian airbag that deploys from the cowl of the Levorg. Other active safety systems are similar to ones in the EyeSight system found in the Subaru Forester, which are active lane change assist, active speed control, pedal misoperation control, and autonomous braking.

“It is a great honor that the Levorg has been recognised with this distinctive award,” said Subaru Corporation, President and CEO, Tomomi Nakamura.
“I would like to thank our customers and all other stakeholders for their continued support for Subaru. We will continue to enhance our efforts to offer an ‘enjoyment and peace of mind’ to all customers,” he added.
