Existing Padang Besar-Segamat routes will also be extended to JB Sentral, creating direct north-to-south links. "Trains leaving Padang Besar at 12.05PM will reach JB Sentral by 10.30PM, while the return leaves JB at 7.35AM and arrives at Padang Besar at 5.53 PM. To ensure transparency and rebuild public trust, two independent assessors namely Alstom and IJMC-Pestech are overseeing the entire process. Their consolidated assessment reports are expected to be ready by mid-Jan 2026, with Malaysia Airports saying the next official update on the Aerotrain will also be shared around the same time.In the meantime, the Aerotrain will continue operating during daytime hours, while the previously announced nightly shutdowns from 9PM to 7AM remain in place. During these hours, full shuttle bus services will continue to ferry passengers between the main terminal and the satellite building to ensure smooth airport operations.

Starting Jan 1, heavy vehicles will no longer be allowed to cross the Kuala Terengganu drawbridge, following the <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/12/overloaded-trucks-crackdown-showing-results-transport-rates-remain-stable" target="_blank" style="">enforcement of new height and weight restrictions aimed at improving safety and protecting the structure.</a>
Under the new rules, lorries, trailers and tourist buses exceeding five tonnes in gross vehicle weight or unladen weight will be barred from using the bridge. The restriction will be enforced through 3.5-metre-high barrier gates, which will be activated at the start of the new year.

“If getting to the station is difficult or slow, people will just drive instead,” he said.Immediate steps should include upgrading pedestrian walkways and lighting, installing clear signage, and aligning feeder bus schedules with train departures and arrivals. “If buses are reliable and frequent, commuters will see them as a real alternative to driving, reducing the need for parking,” Zaly Shah added.

He also suggested dedicated station shuttles, better traffic management during peak hours, and <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2023/11/loke-announced-new-northern-ktmbs-commuter-trains-ets-for-gemas-jb-line" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;">targeted road improvements around Kempas Baru and the city center to ease bottlenecks without massive infrastructure projects.</a>Park-and-ride options were highlighted as a practical solution. “Kempas Baru has more available land for parking, while JB Sentral would benefit from satellite parking outside the congested core. High-frequency shuttles from these lots would reduce the number of cars entering the city,” he explained.

Looking at the bigger picture, Zaly Shah emphasized that the ETS should be the backbone of Johor’s future mobility network.
