Good News! The Road Tax Renewal Exemption Has Extended Until 31st May 2021
The Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) has announced that the exemption for the renewal of Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and Competent Driving Licences (CDL) will be extended from April 1 to May 31, 2021.
This decision was made following the Conditional Movement Control Order (PKP) and the Rehabilitation PKP which are still being implemented.
At the same time, drivers must have valid insurance coverage and show a copy of the certificate of coverage (e-cover note of insurance) to the traffic police when requested.

More detailed information on this announcement is as stated below:
• Individuals whose CDL and LKM have expired between February 1 to March 31, 2021 must renew their CDL and LKM respectively within 60 days from April 1 to May 31, 2021;
• Individuals whose CDL and LKM expire on any date between 1 April to 31 May 2021 must renew their CDL and LKM respectively within 60 days from 1 June to 31 July 2021.

Failure to renew within the stipulated time will result in the driver being penalized.
Minister of Transport Malaysia, Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong said the exemption was made to prevent the public from gathering to cut off the COVID-19 outbreak infection network.
"A period of up to 60 days is given so that the public has more time and space as well as flexibility as needed," he said.
