The government has finally agreed to implement phase one of total lockdown for all economic and social sectors throughout the country from next Tuesday, June 1 to June 14.
The Prime Minister's Office said this was implemented after taking into account the spread of Covid-19 virus throughout the country that is currently at more than 8,000 cases daily.
"Therefore, during the 14 -day period, all sectors are not allowed to operate except the economic and essential service sectors which will be listed by the National Security Council (NSC)," as mentioned in a statement recently.
To date, a total of 2,552 people have died as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak and the death toll is still rising.
The existence of these new and now more violent variants with high infectious rates is said to also contribute to today's results.
Commenting further on the matter, the statement mentioned that the government will be implementing a three-phase lockdown if the completion of Phase One succeeds in reducing Covid-19 cases.
After the full completion of the first phase, the government will implement a Phase Two lockdown for four weeks.
In the Second Phase, the government will allow the reopening of some economic sectors that do not involve large gatherings.
This move will then be followed by the Third Phase where the government will implement the Movement Control Order.
Throughout the Third Phase, the government will allow almost all sectors of the economy to operate but will be subjected to Strict Operating Procedures while the physical presence of employees in the workplace will also be restricted.
However, the decision to move from one phase to the next will be subject to a risk assessment by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
Following this announcement, the Ministry of Finance will also be giving out assistance packages to the people and the affected economic sectors.
An announcement on the assistance package will be given in the near future.
Despite this, what do you think of this decision? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
