Recently at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) Hybrid 2021, Prestige Image Motorcars have introduced the EHang autonomous flying car (AAV).
The country’s local luxury vehicle carrier has a plan to bring these Chinese-made flying cars called the EHang 216 into their Indonesian market sometime in July of this year.
Prestige Image Motorcars’ president director Rudy Salim commented, "So until July, we hope there will be a regulation implemented."
These so-called flying cars that will be present in the Indonesian skies soon have an overall outlook of a giant drone. It is electrically driven and can be operated without a pilot.
Other than that, this autonomous electric flying car was designed for a variety of needs. The purpose ranges from transportation to logistics haulers.
Performance aspects, these drone-like vehicles are able to provide a flight distance of 35 km in about 21 minutes while carrying a maximum payload weight of 220 kg.
He further added, "This flying car can reach a height of up to 3,000 m, with a specification of 1.77 m high and 5.61 m wide".
EHang 216 electric flying cars are emission free and it runs 100 percent on electric energy. It has a charging time of up to 220 v to 380 v in 1.5 hours and is capable of providing a maximum speed of 130 km/h.
Another creative ingenuity of the EHang comes in its size. With its compact build, it requires no landing platforms, due to it taking up very little space. In turn, making it an ideal modern transportation for urban communities.
On another note, for the Malaysian context, back in 2019 the EHang 216 passenger drones were hyped to be our country’s first flying vehicle prototype, dubbed the ‘Super Dron’.
Initially planned, the ‘Super Dron’ was supposed to be introduced in Malaysia for applications such as border monitoring by authorities and as an emergency aid vehicle, and not as public transportations.
Also, a local company EastCap Sdn Bhd claimed then that it wanted to build an assembly facility in Malaysia with a production capacity of 10,000 units a year. However, two years have passed and still no updates on the development whatsoever.
