RM14,850 Lost Due To Buying Honda City From A Non-Existing Company!
Deceived by a cheap car sales advertisement found on Facebook, a lorry driver had to turn a blind eye when a payment of RM14,850 was taken by a car sales company that did not actually exist last January.
The 56 year old victim was attracted to an advertisement for the sale of a used Honda City car which was offered for as low as RM9,200 after being told by his own friend. The car ad was created by a Facebook page owned by Everay Scrab Moto.
Commenting on the case, the Head of the Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Superintendent Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said, the victim had acted to contact a man named Mr Yong in the purchase.
The suspect informed the victim that he only had to pay a price as low as RM6,200 from the original price in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.
"The victim was then interested in buying the car offered and the suspect asked the victim to contact Mr Ong for the purchase of the vehicle.
"After agreeing, the victim was asked to make payment for the car reservation, Road Transport Department (JPJ) fees and various other matters," he said in a statement, today.
From February 9 to April 30, a total of eight transactions were made into seven different accounts until the total reached RM14,850.
"Last Sunday, the suspect once again sent a message through the WhatsApp application asking for RM1,000 for car delivery. However, the victim did not have the money to make the payment.
"The victim then asked about the car he bought, but the suspect blocked his phone number. The victim who felt cheated lodged a police report at the Temerloh District Police Headquarters, yesterday," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for involving fraud and conviction carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and whipping as well as a fine.
CariCarz would like to advise readers not to be easily fooled by advertisements made on social media and hopefully people will be more careful before making transactions in large sums of money. Use a reliable platform for car buying and selling purposes such as CariCarz.com.
