Truck Driver Tested Positive For Drugs To Face Multiple Penalties After Causing Huge Accident!
License suspended, revoked and even facing prison sentences!
That is what the Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong stated when asked to comment on the actions against the lorry driver who crashed into five vehicles at the traffic light junction in Jalan Ipoh yesterday.
However, before these three actions are taken, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will investigate the accident according to the Occupational Safety and Health Industry Code of Practice for Road Transport Activities 2010 (ICOP) audit.
“If the commercial vehicle operator concerned is found to have failed to comply with the ICOP audit, which is also part of the commercial services vehicle license conditions then, the authorities will take action to suspend or revoke the license.
"If convicted in court according to Section 44 (1A) of the Road Transport Act 1987, the driver can be sentenced to imprisonment for no less than seven years and not more than ten years," he said in a statement today.
On top of that, he also did not rule out the possibility that the lorry driver could be fined no less than RM30,000 and not more than RM50,000.
“The lorry driver will be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving license for not less than five years from the date of conviction.
"Therefore, the ministry urges all drivers and operators of commercial vehicles to always comply with traffic rules and regulations to preserve the safety of other road users," he said.
Yesterday, Caricarz reported that a speeding lorry had collided with five other vehicles that were stopped at a traffic light junction, Jalan Ipoh.
Thankfully, all the car drivers involved in the horrific accident survived.
