Two passengers, both Indonesian nationals, Zulhadi, 44, and Hidirman, 43, lost their lives after being trapped in the wreckage. 16 others were reportedly injured including the bus driver.It was understood that the bus, carrying 45 passengers, crashed into a tanker and a tow truck at around 12:30AM. Drivers were rushing to complete their registration, get their RFID tags installed, and sort out app-related problems.One of them, 60-year-old Mohd Nagit Kassim, said the initial registration last November went smoothly, but <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/06/vep-enforcement-starts-july-1-compound-up-to-rm300" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;">syncing the RFID tag with the app has been a headache.</a>“The registration itself was easy, no issues there,” he said. “But when we tried to update it through the app, it just didn’t work. We’re worried it’ll cause problems at immigration. My wife and I tried several times at home, but gave up and came here instead.”

Another driver, Sunny Koh, 56, shared the same frustration. “I registered last year with no issues. But the RFID still won’t connect with the app. That’s why I’m here—trying to get it fixed before I travel.”Fauziah Alias, 59, echoed their concerns. “I did my registration a while ago, but the RFID still doesn’t link. Each person takes around 30 minutes to process—I’ve been here since 8 a.m. There are so many of us with the same problem. The system really needs to be better. No one wants delays or fines.”As of June 29, around 42,000 Singaporean private vehicles, about 17% of the 248,504 issued, still hadn’t activated their RFID tags, according to Bernama.

Drivers without a valid VEP could be fined RM300 on the spot under Section 66H(7) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and won’t be allowed to leave Malaysia until the fine is paid and the tag is activated.

They are expected within a one-kilometre radius of KLCC and along key roads and highways that connect to the city’s main entry points.The <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/05/pdrm-set-for-two-day-dry-run-ahead-of-46th-asean-summit" target="_blank">Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)</a> will soon announce more details on specific routes and any temporary road closures.In the statement, the Foreign Ministry apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their understanding and cooperation.As the host of this important regional event, the ministry said it remains committed to ensuring the meeting runs smoothly while keeping public welfare in mind.Malaysia officially took over the ASEAN Chair on January 1 this year from Laos. Under the “Di Mana Ada Jalan, Di Situ Ada Internet” initiative, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2024/11/llm-considers-using-ai-to-detect-real-time-accidents" target="_blank" style="">Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM)</a> will work together to map out about 50km of highways and trunk roads lacking proper internet coverage.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said discussions are ongoing, and exact locations are yet to be confirmed. Fahmi also shared that the Communications Ministry plans to roll out a proof of concept for direct-to-cell technology using Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites by Q3 or Q4 this year.
He said the project faced some technical delays, but discussions are still ongoing.
