From Maranello, Italian sport’s car brand Ferrari entered the nation with its hybrid engine labelling under 296 GTB series. The brand is known not only because of its performance on track but also beneath its rigidity and impressive chassis. There’s a history captured since the beginning of it.
However, we will not touch on its history record or whatnot as we are here to celebrate the arrival of the Ferrari 296 Gran Turismo Berlinetta (GTB) after it was revealed last year in June, which has set its official debut today.
Today, the Ferrari 296 GTB premiered with a price of RM1,228,000 before duties customisation options, taxes, and insurances.
The 296 GTB comes with an added option, the Assetto Fiorano package. Some of the items they’re offering are special GT racing-derived adjustable Multimatic shock absorbers, high downforce carbon fibre projections, carbon fibre for both cabin and exterior.
On top of that, there’s another package that part of it gives ultralight Lexan rear screen, which cuts off an additional 15 kg, a door panel with around 12kgs lighter and Michelin Sport Cup2R high-performance tyres.
Ferrari identifies its styling by a combined effort effect of short wheelbase, muscular wings, visor-style windscreen, robust flying buttresses, and a new vertical rear screen. At the front, the fascia wrapped with “teardrop-shaped” headlights and integrated dual “faired-in- teardrops” looked like jewels.
Apart from being adorned with haptic surfaces, most of its display is digital, a central tunnel with Ferrari's classic gear shift-gate control smells like bliss to some car enthusiasts. In addition, the Slide Slip Control combines with power steering also equipped in its system.
Describing the car gives off the man’s ego vibes as it’s hard to resist the masculine body sculpture sending a sportiness element in my eyes. Inside, the instrument cluster is carried by two visible structural supports and two side satellites, each with its touchscreen alongside the air vent area.
The two-door Berlinetta is recognized as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sports car, being the first model to use the Ferrari badge, which was revolutionised into a 2.9-litre V6 engine enabling more than 830 cv (819 hp) electric motor.
“The Ferrari 296 GTB is a defining part of Ferrari’s new era of technology and takes the marque to thrilling new heights as its first rear-wheel-drive hybrid mid-engined V6.” stated group CEO automotive group Naza Corporation Holdings Sdn. Bhd, Datuk Nik Hamdan Nik Hassan.
With an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, the GTB's V6 generates 654 horsepower, and the electric motor has 164 horsepower resulting in 818 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 740 Nm at 6,250 rpm.
The driver expected to accelerate to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and 200 km/h in 7.3 seconds. To go faster than that, a top speed of more than 330 km/h (135 km/h in pure electric mode) is achievable. Compared to F8 Tributo, the 296 GTB reduces 200 to zero km/h braking distance by 8.8 percent.
Extra points given to the glass tailgate spotted on the rear-mounted V6 pops up the mighty 20-inch tyres of Ferrari 296 GTB. With a low on the ground shape, the 296 GTB is capable of 25km of pure electric range and 135kph of top speed in a pure electric mode which hosts a range of driving modes from full EV, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify.
