Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line: A Rugged Family SUV!

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line should be considered if there is just one automobile in the house that needs to be utilised for varied tasks.

A stunning performance, ruggedness, plenty of seating, timeless deck design are four things I can say to describe the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line.

The 7 -seater version of the Tiguan was launched for the first time last year before receiving some improvements this year, 2021. The two versions of the Tiguan Allspace introduced during the launch are the two versions of the Tiguan Allspace that were introduced are. The 1.4TSI Highline offered is priced at RM 164,430.75, and the 2.0TSI R-Line variant at RM 208,553.79.

I had the opportunity to try out the 2.0TSI R-Line variant for daily use. This article reveals my views on this variant.

First Impression

With unique features like special R-Line front and rear bumpers, side skirts, 19-inch wheels, trapezoidal twin exhausts, and even a rear spoiler, the Tiguan Allspace R-Line looks sporty. The front and headlights, as well as the entire appearance of the car, appear cool and robust.

Experience as a Driver

Entering the cabin space, I felt awkward as this was my first time sitting on a sporty seat. The design seemed to 'hug' my body to stay in position even when I increased the speed.

However, although the seats have been changed to meet my body size, there is an issue with the height of the dashboard that I find inconvenient. Due to the limited forward perspective, this position was uncomfortable for me.

In terms of power, the Tiguan Allspace R-Line is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged TSI engine that delivers power to all four wheels via a 7-speed DSG (wet) transmission and a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. On paper, this combined power train can achieve an output power of 217 hp and a torque of 350 Nm.

The car's driving mode can be changed via the knob located on the driver's left side, but its position is less strategic because it is pretty challenging to see, especially if you are new to using this car. The mode can be changed to either Normal, Eco, Sport, Comfort or Individual. There are also Off-road options for rugged driving.

Overall, even when driven at any pace, medium or fast, this SUV is reasonably responsive and easy to operate. When the automobile is driven quickly, you can sense the car's steadiness and tyre grip. The automobile's suspension is likewise excellent, with minimal vibration of the passenger body in the car when passing through potholes or bumps. I was able to speed and overtake other drivers without difficulty, demonstrating the might of an automobile engine.

Experience as a Passenger

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace was first introduced in 2020 as the latest Tiguan model with a more significant number of seats than the original model, the Volkswagen Tiguan. The previous model came with five seats, and the Allspace was presented with seven seats.

This is indeed a car model that is suitable for most families. At least you don’t have to ride in two cars to balik kampung for Raya!

I also had the opportunity to bring together the whole family of seven people to experience riding this seven-seater SUV.

The front and second-row seats are comfortable enough, even for long trips. Ample legroom is enough to stretch the body if you feel sluggish during the journey. Adding more comfort is the presence of air conditioning in this line.

However, the passengers in the third row are not very comfortable due to the relatively narrow legroom and the absence of air conditioning in this row. Although there is air conditioning in the second row, people in the last row could barely feel the airflow, maybe due to the relatively low position of the vent.

Another aspect

The load capacity of this car is 230 litres when the seat is not lowered, 700 litres when the third row seat is folded, and 1,775 litres when the second row is also folded. The area is large enough for you to transfer the bike or even bulky furniture to a recreational place.

In terms of safety, the Tiguan Allspace R-Line is equipped with six airbags, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, a rear-view camera mounted on the car boot, rest assistance (driver warning system), post-collision braking system and downhill control.

Is the car worth buying?

The Tiguan Allspace R-Line is suitable for individuals who want to experience more fun and satisfaction while driving while looking into practicality and functionality. It delivers good performance, but it also provides a comfortable environment for a large number of passengers for any activity, whether harsh or leisurely.

Nothing can stop this car from continuing to travel and getting you to your destination, thanks to the all-wheel-drive technology, 4MOTION. However, one feature that may be added to make this car even better is the inclusion of a critical safety system like autonomous emergency braking.

So, is it worth it to buy the Tiguan Allspace R-Line? Judging from the whole aspect of this car, especially its performance and the suitability for use with the family, the price of RM 208,553.79, which is almost RM45,000 more than the price of the 1.4TSI Highline variant, is well worth it.

Hopefully, this article can help you decide before buying. Thanks for reading to the end of the article. And don't forget to share this article on social media, okay?
