Volvo Cars To Establish A New 700-Person Tech Hub In Stockholm
Volvo Cars is expanding its presence in Stockholm by investing in a tech hub in the heart of the Swedish capital, which will house more than 700 professionals with expertise in software engineering, data science and analytics, product management, online business, and user experience.
The tech hub will be an extension of Volvo Cars' current downtown Stockholm location, and it will build on the company's established expertise in online sales and software product development, both of which are key focus areas for the company in its ongoing transformation.
The expansion will help Volvo Cars continue its rapid growth, as well as its mid-decade goals of selling at least half of its vehicles online and developing at least half of its software in-house.
Volvo Cars hopes to attract hundreds of new team members from around the world to its technology hub. Stockholm has an international appeal to the global tech scene as the home and birthplace of several globally successful billion-dollar tech companies.
As Stockholm is a hotspot for tech talent, the automaker wants to attract people from all over the world by creating an innovative, creative, and collaborative workplace. The process has already begun, and it is currently seeking new team members to help propel the company forward.
“People with the right competence and values make the difference for our ambitions and that’s why we’re establishing our new tech hub in Stockholm,” said Hanna Fager, head of corporate functions at Volvo Cars.
To fundamentally change car ownership to be more personal through a world-leading consumer experience, Volvo is making the transition to online sales is critical to the company's goal of becoming a leader in the fast-growing premium electric segment with millions of direct consumer relationships.
That is why the company investing in product and technology, as well as expanding in Stockholm, to gain access to a wealth of talent in areas ranging from product management to software engineering and user experience.
Volvo Cars is bringing software development in-house in order to meet its online goals as well as because cars are increasingly defined by software rather than traditional automotive attributes.
To build the best software-defined cars and reap the full benefits of in-house software development, the company is also centralising computing inside its fully electric vehicles into a powerful core system.
Later this year, the tech hub workspace will be renovated and modernised, as it will also serve as the headquarters for the company's operations in the greater Stockholm area.
