PROTON Introduces new 1.5 TGDI Engine Factory
National carmaker PROTON introduced its new high-tech engine assembly facility located in Tanjung Malim,Perak, earlier today.
The facility covered an area of 18,000 sqft on top of having a current maximum capacity of up to 180,000 units that operates in three shifts.

In total, there’s 88 stations that comprise of 17 automatic stations, 15 semi -automatic and 56 manual stations.
On top of that, it uses Internet of Things (IOT) technology in terms of intensive data collection and analysis tools to ensure quality meets standards.



Operations commenced last April, and the new manufacturing hub produces the 1.5 TGDI (Turbo Gasoline Direct Injection) engine installation channel that is built using IR 4.0 ethos and equipped with a high level of automation.



Here are the facts of the Proton engine:
• The 1.5 TGDI three -cylinder engine and its variants have so far been used in over 750,000 vehicles sold worldwide.
• There are modern technologies such as engine size reduction
• Thermal system
• Optimised lubrication
• Low inertia turbo charger
• GDI is homogenized
• Euro 6 compliant fuel consumption
• There are 72 spare parts supplied by 19 vendors from Malaysia and 4 vendors from ASEAN.
“PROTON's new engine assembly line shows that the company has fulfilled its promise to its stakeholders.
"When the agreement was made to work with Geely in 2017, one of our commitments was to invest in the Malaysian automotive industry financially and the introduction of new high -tech components," said PROTON Deputy Chief Executive Officer Roslan Abdullah regarding the facility.
