Will The Chevrolet Blazer EV Outsell The Model Y?
The top-selling electric SUV, the Model Y from Tesla Inc won’t no longer be on the top of the chart after this as it will have a direct rival; The Battery-powered Chevrolet Blazer that General Motors Co. will begin selling next year!
The carmaker announced on July 18 that the electric Blazer model will go on sale in the summer of 2023, shortly after the debut of the Chevy Silverado EV, with the $30,000 Equinox following later that year.

The Blazer and Equinox, will be produced in Mexico, mark the beginning of General Motors' mission to create a similar sales lead in mass-market EVs as it does in internal combustion models.
At the moment, the company’s newest EVs are pricey models from Hummer and Cadillac which can’t be afford by many.
The Blazer will be powered by The Ultium battery which is manufactured by GM’s business partner, LG.
According to the carmaker, its vehicles will be more profitable, easier to build and go farther before needing a recharge with the Ultium platform.
Bank of America Securities analyst John Murphy assured that the Blazer, Silverado and Equinox might outsell all competitors—including market leader Tesla in electric vehicle sales by 2025.
By then, according to Murphy's prediction, Ford Motor Co. will be slightly in front of Tesla with more than 10% of the market while GM will own more than 14% of the U.S. EV market share.
The Blazer's range will surpass Tesla and match that of rival EVs like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which is a major selling factor today. The Model Y from Tesla costs roughly $66,000 and has a range of 318 miles while the Blazer’s 320-mile RS version goes for $52,000.
However, one issue for GM is that its specialised battery, which was released after other models hit the market, isn't offering significantly more range than its conventional rivals.
Both the Ford and the $45,000 Blazer have a 247-mile range and cost $1,000 extra. Both vehicles' premium models have comparable expanded ranges—and pricing points.
However, GM claims that the Silverado electric truck will have a 400-mile range, surpassing Ford's Lightning pickup since the business can place more battery in the specific truck platform, but the performance is comparable for smaller models.
GM currently operates two battery factories in the United States, and two more are under construction. That will reduce battery prices for GM at the beginning of production while other rivals are still ramping up cell production.
The platform might also allow GM to offer the Chevy Equinox small SUV starting at $30,000 the next year, providing middle-class shoppers with a car with respectable range and a spacious interior. GM might even be able to profit from it.
Will the electric Blazer outsell the Model Y in the near future?
