Today in Tikam Batu, a school van carrying 16 students went into a drain, breaking one student's arm but leaving 15 other students unharmed.
According to Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain, deputy director of operations for the State Fire and Rescue Department, the incident left the van driver, who was in his 50s, with only minor head injuries.
According to Ehsan, a distress call was made around 7.40 am, and firefighters from the Tikam Batu Fire Station were sent to the site near Taman Rhu.
"Based on initial information, the driver lost control of the vehicle before it skidded into the drain and crashed.
"During the incident, the van was taking 16 pupils to school. Fortunately, none of the pupils were pinned inside the vehicle that fell on its left side," he said in a statement.
According to Ehsan, the victims were 10 boys and 6 girls, all between the ages of seven and twelve. All of them were rushed to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.
