Selangor youth triumphs in TGR Velocity Esports Championship Season 5

The fifth season of the TGR Velocity Esports Championship, organised by UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT), came to a thrilling conclusion last weekend with its Grand Finals held at the 1Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya.

The event saw the championship’s ten finalists battle it out across three virtual races – a 15 minute sprint, followed a 30- and 40-minute endurance rounds - to decide a champion amongst them. Besides that, a special Celebrities race session was also held and featured the appearance of Toyota Gazoo Racing Celebrity Racers such as Nabil Ahmad, Shukri Yahya, and Zizan Razak.
Back to the main event and, after the three gruelling rounds mentioned, it was 24-year-old Muhammad Iqbal Suji who came out on top to claim the title as this season’s champion. The Selangor native had beaten fellow competitors Muhammad Uzair in second and Taj Izrin Aiman Taj Madira in third to claim said title.

“Winning the event made me recall all the emotions and frustrations of not getting the position that I felt I deserved over the last few years and now that I finally have, it feels great and steaming hot!,” said Muhammad Iqbal after he was handed the Champion’s Trophy and RM20,000 grand prize by UMW Toyota Motor President Ravindran K.
With the national level of this Esport series organised by UMWT now concluded, Iqbal will now focus his efforts towards leading a three-man Malaysian team, which also includess Uzair and Taj Izrin, to the regional finals of the Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup organised by Toyota Motor Asia Pacific (TMAP) scheduled for Oct 2.
The organising of the Toyota GR Velocity Esports Championship gives those who excel online an ideal platform to further develop and unleash their fullest potential with some even transitioning into real racing,” said UMW Toyota Motor President Ravindran K. He also added that Toyota’s combination of physical and online racing since 2018 has given the company the opportunity to contribute immensely to greater promoting of Malaysian motorsports.
