UMWT Expands T-TEP Program to Strengthen Malaysia’s Automotive Talent
\
UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Education, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and key private institutions to expand its Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) in Malaysia.
The signing ceremony, held at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur, marks a significant step forward in strengthening the country’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) landscape.
The T-TEP program, first introduced in 1991, has grown from just five partner institutions to 25 today. Each institution is now equipped with Toyota’s advanced training syllabus, along with the latest learning tools such as hybrid and electric engine simulators.

This expansion highlights UMWT’s commitment to preparing students for the future of mobility and the changing demands of the automotive industry.
So far, UMWT has invested nearly RM20 million into the T-TEP program, producing about 7,000 skilled graduates in Malaysia. The company sees this as more than just workforce development—it is about empowering individuals and uplifting communities.
“T-TEP goes beyond preparing students for entry-level roles. It equips them with real-world experience and the mindset to grow into future leaders in the automotive field,” said Mohd Shamsor Mohd Zain, Executive Director of UMWT.

UMWT’s strong presence in Malaysia - with over 100 service centres and three manufacturing plants also offers students practical internship placements to experience the latest industry standards and technologies firsthand.
Meanwhile Datuk Ravindran K, President of UMWT, further added, “T-TEP embodies our commitment to not only advance automotive excellence, but to uplift lives and communities through knowledge, opportunity, and purpose.”
The expansion of T-TEP reinforces UMWT’s role as an industry leader and a proactive partner in nation-building, helping to shape a skilled, future-ready workforce for Malaysia.
